Stay Sound Equine Body Therapy

One pillar in holistic horse management for soundness

Equine Body Therapy helps your horse feel stronger, move better and thrive – through calm, experienced, and compassionate care.

At Stay Sound, we provide professional Equine Body Therapy tailored to your horse’s unique needs. With over three decades of experience and a lifetime of understanding horses from the inside out, we help support muscular-skeletal soundness, ease tension, and improve movement – with a quiet, respectful approach that puts your horse’s wellbeing first.

Sustaining soundness requires a holistic approach. Every horse requires exacting hoof care, excellent dental maintenance, tailored nutrition and intake, effective parasite management and their social herd requirements met to attain a base level of wellbeing. When you add work to the horse’s day you also then need to consider appropriate conditioning, fitness, work regularity, quality and variety of work, saddle/harness fit and maintenance of the horse’s body through Equine Body Therapy.

Horses have not evolved to be ridden or driven. Work in itself (even good work in excellent posture) can cause wear and tear on horses’ bodies. Wear and tear is increased when horses are challenged with poor conformation, hoof balance, saddle or gear fit, neglected teeth or poor nutrition.

Equine Body Therapy can assist to minimise the impact of wear and tear and prevent injuries, whether it be in the paddock or from their work. Both recovery from injury and the way the horse compensates for the injury can be improved by quality body work. Conformational challenges can also be mitigated by body work. Changes to posture both moving and standing can be affected to improve the appearance of the horse.

Meet Allison – A Lifetime of Horse Sense

Considering the horse’s wellness first, always

Allison brings over 35 years of horse experience, which began in childhood and has included many years of club membership and competition.

After completing her diploma in Horse Business Management (Marcus Oldham College), Allison worked in varied roles within the horse industry. She has experience in coaching, retraining, thoroughbred racing, carriage driving, stud work, stallion handling, foal training, and some harness racing. Allison has bred and broken in many of her own horses to saddle and harness over the years.

With a soft spot for Welsh ponies and cobs, Allison is not sure if she prefers riding or driving and has a (not so secret) love of mares with strong personalities. Allison is committed to her ongoing development of skills and knowledge, with a particular focus on equine wellness and ethical horse management.

Having some soundness issues with several of her own horses that were requiring regular body work, Allison decided it was time to learn more about maintaining muscular-skeletal soundness in her own horses. This led to her completing her Equine Body Therapy modules, followed by the Practitioner course with Equine Body Therapy Founder, Sue Parker.

Allison is now offering Equine Body Therapy services to ethical horse people who are interested in helping their own horses develop strength and balance, improve performance and reduce wear and tear on their bodies.

When Your Horse May Benefit From Body Therapy

Equine Body Therapy can make a meaningful difference for a wide range of horses. Here are some common signs and scenarios:

Peace of Mind
You’re committed to your horse’s wellbeing and want to support their soundness — today and long into the future.

Behavioural Changes
Girthiness, reluctance to move forward, anxiety when saddling, or becoming hard to catch can all point to muscular-skeletal discomfort that EBT may help relieve.

Mild Lameness or Unevenness
If your horse seems asymmetrical, lacks their usual swing in trot, or is tripping more than usual, bodywork may uncover and address underlying muscular imbalances.

Injuries or Accidents
Not all injuries are visible. Kicks, slips, or paddock missteps can create soft tissue damage that leads to long-term restrictions. EBT helps restore function and reduce future compensation patterns.

Saddle Fit Issues
Even a well-fitting saddle can cause damage over time. EBT helps repair soft tissue, restore topline health, and support better muscle development after a fit correction.

After Veterinary Care
Following sedation, illness, or procedures, EBT can reduce stiffness and support nervous system and tissue recovery at a cellular level.

Relaxation and Appreciation
Sometimes it’s simply a thank you — a chance to give your horse some comfort and release tension. Many horses deeply enjoy the experience and enter a relaxed, peaceful state during treatment.
